This site aims to inform potential visitors to the London 2012 Olympics. You will find information regarding travel, venues and sports.
Travel
In the travel section you will find out about London’s airports and the Euro-train links to mainland Europe. There are five international airports servicng London and good train links to Europe via the Eurostar rail link to Brussels and Paris.
Venues and locations
The London Olympics will be hosted at 11 locations in central or greater London providing 28 different arenas or grounds for sporting activities. The breadth of sports covered will of course require events at some locations outside London. Many of the events for the London Olympics 2012 will be hosted at the Olympic Park while others will be hosted and at established venues in and around the greater London area. A smaller number of events, mainly those requiring the use of large outdoor spaces will be held outside London. This site will provide travel and events information concerning these venues and locations. The major events outside London include:
- Sailing in Weymouth
- Rowing & Canoeing on Dorney Lake, Eton
- Football at various stadia around the UK: Hamdem Park, Old Trafford, Millenium Arena
Twenty six different sports will be represented at the London Olympics in a total of 302 different events. Athletics takes the lions share of events, 47, followed by swimming with 34 events.
Each sport will have its own page providing information about venues and timetables. For sports such as modern pentathlon where the events are spread around several sites it will be important to know where each individual event is sites.
Accomodation and Food
As the London Olympics in 2012 approaches it wil be increasingly more difficult to find accomodation in London. We will attempt to provide useful advice on where to stay and provide travel information for these locations.
